Timemore Black Mirror Basic 3 is the updated coffee scale in the Basic series: faster, slimmer and smarter than before. The scale weighs only 300 grams and measures 14 x 12 x 2 cm, so it fits in a small space and is easy to take along. This is the black version, where the readings on the display stand out clearly.
Three timer modes for different brew methods
Basic 3 has three modes, and you switch between them with the multifunction switch. The modes cycle in the order standard, pour over and espresso.
In espresso mode the scale tares itself when you place a cup on it. When the coffee starts flowing, the timer and the weighing start automatically and you see the flow rate at the same time.
Pour over mode gives you the coffee-to-water ratio, live flow rate, automatic tare and intelligent weight detection. In standard mode you see the ratio and the flow rate and start the timer yourself.
Ratio calculator and flow rate
No more mental math. Dose your coffee, press the button and pour, and the scale shows the coffee-to-water ratio directly. The flow rate is shown in grams per second, which helps you keep the pour even and repeat the same brew time after time.
Accuracy
The scale has a pressure sensor developed in house by Timemore, accurate to 0.1 grams. A separate shield protects against interference from magnetic cups and other electromagnetic sources. The weighing range is from 0.2 grams to 2,000 grams.
Battery and build
The 1,600 mAh battery lasts up to 24 hours of continuous use, which is roughly 280 five-minute pour overs on a single charge. Charging is done over USB-C.
The scale is IPX3 rated, and a precisely fitted silicone seal keeps moisture out. The LED display is clear and easy on the eyes. Deep channels in the surface guide spills away, and the raised edges of the silicone mat keep vessels in place. Flip the mat over and it works as a cradle for your portafilter.
